A master suite addition might be an option for your home, especially if your existing bedroom is cramped. An en suite master bed and bath is all the rage right now, and it’s almost mandatory for all new home floor plans. Adding on a suite is a blank slate for creating a space that spacious, beautiful and functional.

Another unique addition to consider for your home is a garage, either because you don’t have one or to replace your existing space. Many homeowners are converting their garages into a media room or man cave, so they’re adding on the perfect place to park. This is also an excellent option when you need to expand your garage to accommodate additional cars or lawn equipment.

You can enjoy the outdoors year round by building a sunroom addition, and you probably won’t miss the insects or bad weather. The popular trend is to use the solarium as a casual family room or dining area, though some homeowners furnish it as a formal living space. Installing screens allows you to throw open the windows during warmer weather.

3 Great Renovation Trends in 2013

As we head into the holiday season, experts in the home renovations industry will be analyzing the styles and design trends that were popular in 2013. With extensive experience in home improvements, new construction and historic preservations, the professionals at Tiefenthaler have identified the top renovation trends for 2013.

1. It’s time to embrace bold, bright color when incorporating design elements and home décor. The last few years have seen elegant rooms bathed in neutrals, with a few pops of color in the accent pieces. However, more designers are shifting to color on a large scale. You might consider mahogany walls, some bold custom woodwork or bright furniture to bring color into your living space.

2. Go green when you’re planning home renovations in 2013. Bamboo is being made into flooring, cabinetry, and various other uses, and it’s a renewable resource. You can also support the planet by utilizing reclaimed wood, which adds texture and visual interest to any home improvement project. These wood pieces can be decades old, so they also bring a historical element into your home.

3. With the economy showing signs of improvement, more homeowners are able to splurge on high end improvements, artwork and furniture. You don’t have to break the bank by spending all at once, but rather take your time. Buy one piece you absolutely love, even if it’s the most expensive article in the room. The decor will benefit from having a focal point, and you can design around this central feature. One glamorous piece of furniture or unique wall art is a perfect highlight to the room.

Near & Far tour 2013

We are very excited that one of the homes built by Tiefenthaler Construction was chosen for the Near & Far tour in May 2013. What a great day of touring by local Fairfield County interior designers, realtors, architects and people who just appreciate a magnificent home from  the inside out!

In preparation for the day, the owners, Arnold and Gail Cohen, wanted to do a video to let tour goers know why they chose to develop this very special property, at 78 Bulkely Ave. N., Westport, CT, and why they chose Ross Tiefenthaler of Tiefenthaler Construction to renovate the antique house on the 6 acre property, then attach the “addition” in the form of an amazing 6500 sq. foot main residence.

We love this house and so did a scout from East Coast Home + Design who was on the Near & Far tour and asked if the magazine could feature this special project in the upcoming fall issue. We will be sure to attach a link to that magazine coverage if you don’t see it for yourselves!

For now, here is the video link!
